HOW DO I BOOK MY SESSION?
If you've decided that I'm a good fit for you and your family, send me an email or give me a call. Let's chat a bit, pick a date and pick a location that suits us both. A non-refundable retainer is required to confirm your session. Once you fill out a booking form, and a deposit is sent - it's official!
HOW LONG IS A SESSION?
Family sessions typically run about an hour. I don't wear a watch, so we stay as long as we're both pleased with what we've managed to capture during our time together.
WHAT IF IT RAINS? SNOWS? WHAT IF I NEED TO RESCHEDULE?
I may not be a clock-watcher, but I sure am a weather watcher. In the event of inclement weather, we will decide together if we should postpone our session. Sessions will always be postponed due to pouring rain, blizzards, hurricanes and insect/snake/zombie invasions. I am fine, and actually enjoy shooting in heavy fog, light mist and beautiful fluffy snow. I try to decide 24 hours in advance if a session will proceed, so we can both plan our schedules accordingly.
I understand that life can throw curveballs sometimes. If you need to reschedule your session for a reason other than bad weather, we can work together to find a new day and time that works for you in the weeks following.
I WANT TO BRING MY MOM AND DAD/GRANDMA/UNCLE BOB TO THE SESSION. IS THERE AN EXTRA CHARGE FOR THIS?
Yes. A family session includes parents and their children only. We can add on extra time at an additional cost if you'd like to include your extended family in your session.
WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR? WHAT SHOULD WE BRING?
Layers! Colours! Patterns! I love it all. Co-ordinate your colours, but please don't wear matching outfits. A good rule of thumb is to choose three complimentary colours you love and incorporate those into your outfits. Leave the logos at home, and please, PLEASE, no Crocs :) Remember, I will likely make you sit on the ground, on a rock, or on a log, so make sure you are comfortable. Dress your kiddos in comfy clothes, and don't worry if they get a little dirty - it's just for one day.
Props. Sometimes I'll bring a quilt or a cool old chair to a session. But that's it. I'm not a prop-y photographer, and I like to keep the focus on you and your gorgeous family. If you would like to bring something special to your session, please feel free to do so.
WHAT IF MY KIDS DON'T BEHAVE, OR GET ALL CRAZY?
I'm a mother to two young boys, and I totally get it. They act up, they don't listen to you, and they may cry or pick their nose. And guess what? I'm totally ok with that. I've been pooped on, barfed on, called names, and had things thrown at me... and I still manage to get the shots you love. I have years of experience working with children of all ages. I know when to hang back and let shy children make the first move, and I know how to jump right in with the outgoing children and talk Minecraft or tell bad knock knock jokes.
And, I'll let you in on a little secret: they're ALWAYS better behaved for me than they are with you. So sit back, relax, and let them run and yell. I'm happy to run right after them to get the authentic shots that show off their true smiles, and their true personalities.
SO, TELL ME MORE ABOUT THE INCLUDED DIGITAL IMAGES
All digital images that are included in your session are professionally retouched by me, and are given to you in high resolution on a USB drive. For standard family sessions, you can expect 50 final images, extended family sessions will include more, and creative sessions will include less. Quantities may differ depending on how many people are in your family.
With your images, you will receive a print release. This means you may share them with your family and friends, print as many as you like, and create albums and fun products for your own personal use. I retain copyrights to all my images, and sometimes use them on my website, Facebook page and other marketing and promotional materials. If you'd rather I didn't use your photos, just let me know - I'm cool with that.
ARE YOU STILL SHOOTING WEDDINGS AND EVENTS?
No, I am not. As much as I loved shooting weddings in the past (I shot my first wedding on film in 2005!), it all became a little too much to handle. I've decided to step back a bit and focus my skills on shooting the things I love the most - families, children, and small business.
